Legal Operations Support Specialist

LPL is seeking a Legal Operations Associate to join our Legal Business Operations team.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Legal Business Operations and provides assistance with e-billing and the management of our law firms and vendors.

In this role, you will collaborate with Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (SS&P), Risk & Performance Management (RPM) and our Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) partners.


  • Assists with various functions of our law firm and vendor e-billing systems, including but not limited to opening/closing matters, creation/termination of users, rate approvals, invoice fee/expense reviews, matter clean-up, tracking, resolving invoice issues, problem-solving and ad hoc reports.

  • Process third party invoices efficiently and effectively for multiple departments and cost centers.

  • Work collaboratively with LPL’s SS&P team to process and manage Legal engagements across all phases of the sourcing life cycle including Master Service Agreements (MSA’s), Statements of Work (SOW’s) and Purchase Requests (PR’s) using the appropriate templates and following internal policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for leading cross collaboration calls with various LPL departments, in an effort to manage the legal vendor and law firm engagements. 

  • Assist attorneys with completion and management of LPL’s Risk Assessment Evaluation (RAE) intake forms.

  • Collects, reviews, enters, formats and maintains accurate data into spreadsheets, databases and other electronic tools.

  • Assists with Legal Operations processes, procedures and workflows.

  • Ability to identify areas for improvement, lead initiatives and provide solutions to create better processes and efficiencies for multiple work streams.

  • Keep track of various membership rosters for department.

  • Ensuring work is complete, accurate and timely.


  • 2-3 years of experience.

  • Candidates must demonstrate initiative, be able to perform well under pressure in an environment of continually changing priorities while simultaneously handling multiple assignments and projects.

  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as, in a team environment.

  • Ability to interact and communicate across business lines both verbally and written with internal and external partners.

  • Solid problem-solving, follow-up and decision making abilities.

  • Must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Strong MS Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and aptitude to quickly learn new systems.

  • Experience in Legal Tracker, ARIBA and/or Passport is a plus, but not required.

  • Previous experience with accounts payable and/or billing in a legal environment is preferred.

  • College degree preferred.
