AVP, Institutional Recruiter, Start Up Banks & Credit Unions

The role of the AVP, Institutional Recruiter-Start up Banks and Credit Unions is to represent the LPL platform of services to financial institutions (banks and credit unions) that are not currently in the business of providing wealth management services to their clients/members but have an interest in exploring adding wealth management services to their offering. The ultimate goal of the AVP-Institutional Recruiter is to consult with bank and credit union senior leadership on the value to their clientele of offering these services and specifically, why the institution should offer these services through LPL Financial. On average, a recruiter in this position will be expected to recruit about 6 institutions in the first year and between 8 and 10 in their second year with the firm.

Extensive phone work is instrumental for the success of an Institutional Recruiter, therefore the ability to effectively articulate over the telephone is of critical importance. Travel time will depend a great deal on the individual situation and will vary based on the recruit, but anticipated travel should be 40-50% of the time and will include overnight travel given the national footprint of the territory.  The Institutional Recruiter will use a database to identify financial institutions and based on size, location and the Institution’s area of focus, determine if the bank/credit union is a good fit for these services and specifically, for LPL.  In many cases, potential institutions will be brought into one of the home offices for a walk through of the headquarters to convince the organization to select LPL as their broker-dealer.  In other cases, meetings will occur at the facilities of the Institution in an effort to achieve the same objective.

LPL has had success recruiting a wide variety of institutions including community and regional banks and credit unions of a variety of sizes.  This success has led to LPL becoming the largest independent broker-dealer in the country, the 3rd largest broker dealer overall and the largest provider of wealth management services to banks and credit unions with over 800 institution partners.

Qualifications:

This is a position that requires a specific skill set rather than an “exact science” resume. The appropriate candidate could come from several backgrounds, such as;

  • Existing broker-dealer Recruiter/Relationship Manager
  • Financial advisor (preferably with bank experience)
  • External Wholesaler (preferably with bank experience)

Other requirements/preferences:

  • Strong understanding and passion for the financial industry and financial planning process overall
  • Effective prospecting skills
  • Enthusiastic, polished professional demeanor
  • Superior communication skills
  • Superior relationship building skills
  • Bank experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Series 7, 63/65 or 66
  • Series 24 preferred
