QA Automation Senior Engineer

Job Overview:

Reporting to the AVP of Automation Quality Assurance, the Senior QA Automation Engineer performs software quality and test processes within the context of a project or release.   With assistance from more senior members of the team, the Sr. QA Automation Engineer builds and maintains Automation Scripts to support LPL systems and applications and uses this knowledge to develop and execute test strategies that fully exercise system functionality. 

Essential Functions:

40% of the time

  • Analyze and translate business requirements and user stories into test cases, testing suites and testing scripts
  • Create and maintain detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Create and maintain data scenarios to support test plans and test cases
  • Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities with QA team
  • Work to automate regression testing during product development life cycle
  • Complete test preparation and test execution tasks as assigned by QA Manager.
  • Designs and implements automation solutions based on system understanding and analysis of technology and system specifications.
  • Prioritizes test cases taking into account business priorities, risk, and combinatorial analysis.
  • Executes Automated Functional, Regression, and System testing for primarily web-based applications
  • Reports software defects and shepherds them through the defect life cycle to closure.
  • Reports test progress and quality status to project stakeholders.
  • Participates in project release efforts ranging in scope from small to very large. 10% of the time
  • Works with peers in test, development and other organizations to troubleshoot and resolve project issues both technical and non-technical in nature.
  • May serve as a subject matter expert for one or more functional areas of our applications.
  • Follows all LPL best practices in software project execution.

30% of the time

  • Serves as a technology ambassador for automation and efficiency solutions
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for Automation Test Library in one or more areas of our applications, typically of moderate to high complexity.
  • Works with peers in test, development, data center and other organizations to troubleshoot and resolve project issues both technical and non-technical in nature.
  • Participates in and occasionally leads process improvement efforts within QA and the larger technology organization.
  • Follows all LPL best practices in software project execution.

15% of the time

  • Maintains Automation and test case management tool for assigned areas of test suite ownership.
  • Configures test environments as necessary to support test efforts.
  • Recommends improvements in Automation strategies, software and process

15% of the time

  • MENTORs and oversees the work of more junior engineers as assigned.
  • Performs code and standards reviews

Requirements

  • Minimum Education B.S. in Computer Science
  • 4+ years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
    • Creating web-based/service tests.
    • Programming/scripting with .Net, Java, Javascript, C#, and Selenium.
    • In Specflow, BDD, and Cucumber.
    • In DevOps and continuous delivery pipelines and systems.
    • SQL and its uses within programming languages
    • Code management
  • Understanding of Restful API and Service models.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry standard Quality Assurance methodologies and their practical application.
  • Shown leadership skills in small teams, leading to deliverable products.
  • Experience managing offshore team members and their deliverables.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

Additional Information/Skills

  • Experience with designing, developing and the execution of reusable and maintainable automated scripts
  • Solid understanding of Windows-based systems, internet technologies, and SQL
  • Solid understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Thorough understanding of the defect life-cycle process and industry standard defect tracking tools.
  • Proficient in GUI design standards
  • Understanding of Formalized QA Product Risk Analysis and Techniques
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where resourcefulness, determination, and strong problem-solving skills are necessary for success.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to complete assigned objectives with minimal supervision.
  • QA experience with financial applications is a plus.
