SVP, Accounting Operations

The SVP, Accounting Operations is responsible for the leadership and operational management of the general accounting functions for LPL Holdings on a consolidated basis and each of its stand-alone subsidiaries. Located in San Diego or Fort Mill and reporting to the SVP, Corporate Controller, this position will lead a team of ~40 accounting and administrative professionals domestically.

The SVP, Accounting Operations will monitor and hold the ultimate responsibility for the timeliness and accuracy of our monthly financial close, compliance with internal controls, and the overall effectiveness of accounting operations which includes staff development and engagement. In this role, the SVP will also serve as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors.

Essential Functions

The SVP, Accounting Operations will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s general accounting function. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategy and leadership: this role will be expected to provide thought-leadership, strategic insights, and regular communications to the staff and leadership about the organization and performance of the Controller’s Group, extraordinary items, and progress vs. goals and strategic initiatives.  

  • As an SVP, this individual will be responsible for driving the engagement, development, and overall performance of the team’s human capital. Partnering with the Corporate Controller and other members of the broader Finance leadership team are a must.

  • Planning, organizing and executing: this role will be responsible for managing the Controllership accounting operations in an organized fashion to produce monthly financials for the consolidated entity, a broker/dealer, a trust company, and other subsidiaries. The financial and operational data produced by the team will need to comply with US GAAP, FINRA, and other standards/regulations. The accounting operations include general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset & capital project management, reconciliations, revenue recognition and consolidations.

  • Monitoring and improving processes: this role will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing accounting operations, service levels, finance systems, and operational metrics related to staffing, productivity, and effectiveness.

  • Complying with internal controls and statutory requirements: this role will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the department’s relationships with internal and external auditors, and effectively managing the timely and effective completion of numerous audit and audit-related engagements.

  • Other: Enhancing existing and documenting new policies and procedures. Focusing on benchmarking and best practices.


  • Experienced Controller or Finance Professional with 15+ years of experience with 5-10 of those being in a management/leadership capacity; financial services related experience strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline is required

  • CPA license and public company experience strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of Oracle R12 or a comparable accounting system

  • Experienced people leader with larger teams; an individual focused on organizational design and effectiveness and the delivery of results through effective planning, organization, and team- building

  • Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills, including development of reporting packages

  • Process re-engineering experience

  • Team player focused on managing numerous relationships, changing priorities, and simultaneous deliverables

  • Motivated individual who enjoys being challenged, collaborating, and constantly improving processes for the benefit of the company and the team
