LPL Financial, the nation's leading independent broker-dealer, is seeking a candidate to lead our Community Relations team, and help us promote meaningful and positive change in communities across the nation. The Vice President, Community Relations manages significant investments, with the goal of helping families gain access to the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to achieve their life’s aspirations.
The person in this position will have the highest levels of visibility within the company, heading the LPL Financial Foundation (LPL's charitable arm), and providing guidance and recommendations to LPL senior leadership.
In addition to leading the Community Relations team, the successful candidate will leverage the talents and energy of LPL's 4,000 employees and nationwide network of more than 16,000 independent financial advisors. The VP will lead LPL's giving initiatives, volunteer engagement opportunities and other national programs.
Specific responsibilities include:
Conduct Strategic Planning:
The VP will create and implement an annual strategic plan that will include long- and short-term investment strategies, a mission-aligned calendar of volunteer opportunities, and matching gift and disaster relief programming. She or he will leverage data and digital platforms to assess success, engagement, and opportunities; evolve programs accordingly.
Lead the LPL Financial Foundation:
The LPL Financial Foundation makes grants in three strategic priority areas: education (high school to college), career skills, and financial literacy. The VP will articulate, promote, and execute the mission of the LPL Financial Foundation. He or she will advise LPL senior leadership and the Foundation board on strategies for charitable contributions and corporate grant-making. In partnership with the Foundation board treasurer, the VP will monitor grant budgets and grantee expenditures, as well as annual Foundation budgets and investments.
Manage Grant Portfolios:
The VP will source, evaluate, and structure strategic partnerships with leading nonprofits. He or she will be responsible for identifying opportunities to scale LPL Foundation involvement with nonprofits across the nation, pursuing grant-making opportunities that will engage our network of financial advisors in communities where they live.
Expand the College Readiness Initiative:
The Foundation's signature program, the College Readiness Initiative, brings LPL advisors, employees, and community partners together to work on college preparatory activities that encourage underserved high school students to pursue higher education. The VP will design a strategic framework and infrastructure to implement and scale this initiative nationwide.
Manage Talent & Team Development:
The successful candidate will attract, develop, and retain critical and diverse talent for the Community Relations team. She or he will leverage strong leadership skills to build a high-performance team, acting as a coach and mentor to enable individual and team success.
Nurture External Relationships & Partnerships:
The VP will develop and maintain external relationships with key business, community, and philanthropic organizations and institutions nationwide. Through these relationships, we will maintain LPL Financial's reputation and presence as a mission-driven, engaged, strong community player and employer.
- Proven track record of designing, leading, and implementing successful philanthropic/community engagement initiatives, including direct experience working with diverse and underserved communities
- Understands the importance of college education, job training, and financial literacy, and is passionate about building economic opportunity for individuals in our nation's communities.
- Bachelor’s Degree, plus a minimum of 10 years' leadership experience in corporate, academic, agency, or non-profit community relations roles
- Ability to serve as the Community Relations team's executive level point of contact, and deliver executive-level communications and presentations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles of media relations, communications, marketing and promotions, social media.
- Excellent writing, analytical/problem-solving, and project/event management skills
- A natural dot-connector and critical thinker with expertise managing multiple efforts simultaneously
- Travel required, approximately 20%.
