VP, Strategic Partnerships

Position Summary

LPL Strategic Partners, formerly known as LPL Sponsor Relations, works with annuity, AI, mutual fund, ETF and UITs product manufacturers to enhance LPL Financial’s robust open-architecture product offering to advisors and investors.

The Vice President of Strategic Partnerships will be responsible for business-to-business interactions between LPL Financial and approximately 100 mutual fund and ETF companies.  The vice president will directly manage the corporate and economic relationships between LPL and mutual fund companies, lead enterprise-level engagement, and support related initiatives.  The successful candidate will have the ability to think strategically and drive tactical execution.

Essential Functions:

Negotiate multiple facets of the partner relationships to including revenue terms, expectations and accountability metrics Be a strategic thought leader who can identify industry trends and execution-oriented opportunities Source and align the best capabilities across product sponsors and LPL Financial Lead partner data strategy Lead all revenue-related discussions with assigned sponsors, including marketing support, omnibus and platform fees. Identify shared strategic priorities across firms and help drive execution leading to successful outcomes Help secure commitments for technology, platform enhancements and support conference fundraising Develop a relationship scorecard for key partners inclusive of strategic vision, focus areas, and next steps Prepare executives for productive engagements/meetings with product sponsors Manage internal access and connectivity with sponsors across the organization

Other Job Duties

Develop strong working relationships with the mutual fund and ETF product team, Legal, Accounting, operations, National Sales & Consulting, and other internal partners. Create and maintain a formalized action plan for large and opportunistic relationships Document relationship interactions via Salesforce Communicate within Strategic Partners and relevant internal partners on partnership status and opportunities

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education Required: 4-year degree from accredited college/university or equivalent in years of experience (focus in: Economics, Finance, and/or Business Management)

Licensing: Series 7

Minimum Experience Required: 3 to 7 years of relevant experience preferable in the financial services industry with a Broker Dealer and/or Product Manufacturer.

Essential Competencies:

  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Confidence engaging directly with senior executives at LPL and Sponsors.  
  • Strong analytical skills with expert abilities in Excel.  Solid PowerPoint skills are also important.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong, influential business relationships with sponsors and LPL internal business partners.
  • Organized. Possess the ability to manage toward deadlines with a high level of self-accountability.
  • Product Knowledge.  Expertise with Mutual Fund and ETF products
  • Industry Knowledge.  Understanding of industry product and platform trends, pricing of sponsorship arrangements, product and platform fees and expense structures and current pricing models.
  • Team player.  Must be a team-oriented individual who is energized and motivated by team success more so than individual accomplishment.
  • Collaborator.  Must be a willing and accomplished collaborator who is able to drive successful consensus outcomes among business partners with potentially competing perspectives and motivations.
  • Previous experience in a Sponsor Relations/Strategic Partnership role is a plus.
