The VP of Environmental Risk will be responsible for defining and overseeing a framework for group-wide assessment and consideration of environmental and associated Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks. The successful candidate will be able to contribute as an SME in this space and to empower cross-functional business leaders to more effectively document, track, and oversee areas of opportunity related to environmental risks while enabling the company to meet any relevant, newly arising regulatory reporting requirements. The VP will be responsible for liaising across corporate functions and key business partners including Product, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Technology, and Internal Audit to achieve these goals. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting the operation of the broader enterprise risk framework. We are looking for someone who is as passionate about environmental impacts to the wealth management industry as we endeavor to understand and protect our advisor platform from climate related disruptions.
Develop and operate a framework for assessment and reporting on company-wide environmental risks and impacts. This includes defining requirements to meet any new regulatory or business environmental risk obligations, working with key business and corporate function partners to deliver against those requirements, and reporting of outcomes.
Proactively provide guidance and oversight to enterprise-wide initiatives with ability to synthesize complex problems and present them to management clearly.
Support prioritization, monitoring and management of numerous risk operations initiatives with varying levels of complexity, risk, duration and prioritization.
Identify ad-hoc environmental and operational risks through offline function channels and take areas of weakness through risk deep dives with independent insights.
Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems and internal controls.
Develop testing strategies and methodologies to assess critical business processes relative to their potential climate impacts.
Analyze inputs and challenge findings with recommendations and corrective actions.
Develop robust documentation of critical processes and procedures through activities like Risk and Control Self-Assessment processes.
Identification of control weaknesses and development and tracking of ongoing management action plans.
Ability to influence and interface effectively with all levels of management across three lines of defense.

Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred
Working familiarity with SEC guidance on Environmental, Social and Governance
Self-starting, hands-on approach to developing and maturing an ESG program
3+ years of experience in environmental risk management, or similar discipline, preferably in financial services industry with a working knowledge of risk management processes and techniques
Working knowledge of FINRA and SEC rules and regulations and how they impact a broker dealer
