The role of the VP, Institutional Regional Director is to represent the LPL platform of services to the financial institution space (banks and credit unions) as well as to large independent enterprises. The ultimate goal of all Regional Directors is to recruit financial institutions and large independent enterprises and their advisors into the firm. On average, a Regional Director will be expected to recruit about 4 institutions in the first year and between 8 and 10 in their second year with the firm.
Extensive phone work is instrumental for the success of an Institutional Regional Director, therefore the ability to effectively articulate over the telephone is of critical importance. Travel time will depend a great deal on the individual situation and will vary based on the recruit, but anticipated travel should be 50% of the time and will include overnight travel given the geography of your territory (approximately 12 states). The team will work to assess the business of institutions and enterprises to determine if the business is a good fit for LPL. In many cases, potential institutions and enterprises will be brought into one of the home offices for a walk through of the headquarters to convince those organizations to select LPL as their broker-dealer.
LPL has had success recruiting a wide variety of institutions and enterprises, including community and regional banks and credit unions of a variety of sizes. This success has led to LPL becoming the largest independent broker-dealer in the country, the 3rd largest broker dealer overall and the largest provider of these services to banks and credit unions.
This is a position that requires a specific skill set rather than an “exact science” resume. The appropriate candidate could come from several backgrounds, such as;
- Existing broker-dealer Recruiter
- Financial advisor (preferably with bank experience)
- External Wholesaler (preferably with bank experience)
- Strong understanding and passion for the financial industry and financial planning process overall
- Effective prospecting skills
- Enthusiastic, polished professional demeanor
- Superior communication skills
- Superior relationship building skills
- Bank experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- Series 7, 63/65 or 66
- Series 24 preferred
- We are looking for a Regional Director able to cover a territory west of the Mississippi, and prefer candidates who have managed external/field sales in that part of the country
