Job ID: R-020755 Date posted: 04/18/2022 Primary Location NJ-Remote Other Locations SC-Fort Mill , CA-Remote , CA-San Diego

Are you a team player? Are you curious to learn? Are you interested in working in meaningful projects? Do you want to work with cutting-edge technology? Are you interested in being part of a team that is working to transform and do things differently? If so, LPL Financial is the place for you!

LPL Financial (Nasdaq: LPLA) was founded on the principle that the firm should work for the advisor, and not the other way around. Today, LPL is a leader* in the markets we serve, supporting more than 18,000 financial advisors, 800 institution-based investment programs and 450 independent RIA firms nationwide. We are steadfast in our commitment to the advisor-centered model and the belief that Americans deserve access to personalized guidance from a financial advisor. At LPL, independence means that advisors have the freedom they deserve to choose the business model, services, and technology resources that allow them to run their perfect practice. And they have the freedom to manage their client relationships, because they know their clients best. Simply put, we take care of our advisors, so they can take care of their clients.

Job Overview:

The Principal Enterprise Architect - API Solutions is a critical member of the Enterprise Architecture team and is responsible for articulating how our engineering teams can transform their products for the hybrid-cloud era with modern, robust RESTful APIs that serve as the underlying platform for LPL’s digital capabilities. Working with and alongside multiple scrum teams across the firm, you will play a vital role in designing and architecting solutions to enable a modern microservice architecture that helps our advisors take care of their clients. As an ambassador of Enterprise Architecture, you will obsessively pursue making it simple and delightful for LPL teams to build safe, secure and compliant technology solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Showcase your growth mindset by seeking to understand our delivery teams’ business challenges first and then designing a solution that best achieves the end goal prioritizing the four API architectural domains: security, reusability, data integrity and semantic value.

  • Bring people together by acting as a bridge between API ecosystem partners such as SmartBear, Amazon, Apigee and more, our operations teams, our shared services teams such as DevOps, and our delivery teams. Share up-to-date insights on the latest API solutions, patterns and trends, formulate creative approaches to address business challenges, present and host workshops with senior leaders, and translate technical jargon into layman's language and vice versa.

  • Challenge delivery teams by using your skills, insight, and experience to help our development community see what it takes to do the right things versus simply doing things most expediently. Respectfully challenge their beliefs with well-researched, tailored insights to spotlight innovative ways of generating solutions that maximize outcomes.

  • Create an excellent experience for our developers and internal stakeholders with adaptable communications skills that foster a collaborative environment. Document the agreed-upon solution through well-written, thoughtful, and living artifacts that demonstrate maturity, wisdom, and professionalism.

  • Partner with internal teams to help developers navigate their digital transformation with a focus on turning LPL into a platform that developers both internal and external can build robust financial solutions on top of. This includes envisioning, end-state solution design, interim milestones, and change management necessary to guarantee adoption.

What are we looking for?

We want strong collaborators who can deliver a world-class client experience. We are looking for people who thrive in a fast-paced environment, are client-focused, team oriented, and are able to execute in a way that encourages creativity and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience; at least 3 years in leading an enterprise wide API initiative architect or lead developer capacity.

  • 3+ years in industry standards, both formal (such as TLS, REST, etc) and informal (such as Swagger).

  • 5+ years hands on experience of a modern object-oriented programming language; .Net Core greatly preferred.

Core Competencies:

  • Deep understanding that APIs are the mechanism to access data, and that data is a valuable asset that requires careful security consideration; as such, you are an expert first and foremost on API security.

  • You are a learner and a quick study, always curious about new technologies and how they impact LPL and our clients’ businesses.

  • Ability to understand what technology to apply to a problem set without being trapped by existing tooling preferences.

  • Courageous leader who brings your whole self to work, ready to tackle tough conversations, and willing to be vulnerable and lean in on others.

  • Experience in guiding people to the right solution while making them feel it was their decision all along.

  • Empower people to feel heard and important regardless of their rank through your inclusive communication skills, whether written or verbal.

  • Able to communicate with authority and confidence and whiteboard your solutions effectively for a varied audience of stakeholders.

  • Confident in helping teams navigate the complexities of microservice development and migration, aligning technology outcomes to business needs

Preferences:

  • Prior APIgee experience

  • Prior Kafka experience

  • Prior experience with monetized API
