The Investigations Group within LPL’s Legal department is responsible for investigating matters involving potential fraud and/or misconduct by the Firm’s associated persons, employees, contractors and vendors, as well activities, business practices or misconduct that involves violations of firm policies, procedures, or processes. The group also proactively identifies potential areas of exposure within the company and provides advice to senior management and appropriate firm committees.
The Assistant Vice President, Associate Counsel Investigations will report to a Vice President in the Investigations Group. The successful candidate will have an understanding of broker dealer regulations and prior experience conducting and coordinating investigations and providing investigative findings to appropriate parties. This role interacts frequently with the firm’s Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Operations departments and works closely with Anti-Money Laundering, Business Risk Management, Litigation, and Whistleblower teams.
The position will be based on the west coast or mid-west region.
Engage with various internal partners to investigate matters involving potential misconduct by financial advisors and employees; act as a liaison with other LPL departments to coordinate investigative efforts.
Conduct, coordinate, and/or supervise significant internal investigations, including detailed money movement and bank record analysis, e-mail and document reviews, and public record searches to.
Draft initial case assessments and develop work plans, prepare interview summaries, and draft and review written summaries of investigations
Support next steps as warranted (e.g., escalations, oral and written case briefings, case closure).

Juris Doctor degree required
Admission in good standing to a State Bar
Minimum of seven years’ experience in-house at a broker/dealer, securities-related regulatory entity, law enforcement agency, or a law firm, with significant exposure to investigation practices and procedures involving misappropriation, theft, fraud, etc.
Understanding of the financial services regulatory framework and the rules and regulations particular to broker dealers and investment advisors.
Ability to travel as needed.
