Senior Vice President, Head of Communications

This individual will lead the strategy and delivery of communication programs responsible for shaping LPL’s reputation with key stakeholders, including employees, clients, media, regulators, rating agencies, and the general public. The successful leader will have extensive experience leading a communication function responsible for multi-stakeholder engagement and a comprehensive understanding of how communication activities yield business outcomes.

This role will have responsibility for:

  • Establishing objectives and key results for communication programs that shape and promote LPL’s reputation with employees, advisors, and other stakeholders, and routinely measuring success in alignment with corporate brand strategy

  • Shaping a vision for LPL’s media relations approach that makes earned media an increasingly valuable contributor to LPL’s business growth

  • Leading the firm’s crisis and issues management practice, including the development of comprehensive communication plans for strategic initiatives, transactions, organizational realignments, and regulatory and legal matters

  • Managing LPL’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy and reporting

  • Partnering with Investor Relations on quarterly and annual earnings communications, including annual reports, press releases, analyst call remarks, and media prep

  • Interpreting data and translating insights into action to continuously improve the effectiveness of our messaging and channel selection

The preferred location for San Diego, but Charlotte may be an acceptable option.


  • Deep appreciation for the critical role of effective communication in achieving business outcomes; skilled at quickly diagnosing business challenges and proactively articulating the role of communication in solving for business and client needs

  • Stellar written and oral communication skills, with the ability to grasp and translate complex and disparate ideas into a cohesive storyline with clear key messages, a natural storyteller

  • Presence to be viewed as an advisor to the C-suite, along with strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence

  • Fluent in use of digital communication mediums and multi-channel strategies

  • Egoless collaborator who works effectively in a matrixed environment and is comfortable counting on peers to work collectively toward mutual success

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Strategic Agility: Approaches strategy with an entrepreneurial mindset. Uses critical thinking to increase the value proposition that translates into market advantages.

  • Problem solving and Decision making: Focuses on customer-centric process that frames the right hypothesis. Uses human-centric design thinking to work back from the customer experience. Develops a fact base to inform solutions.

  • Operational Execution: Develops roadmaps, milestones and operational metrics that align with anecdotal evidence. Communicates the journey and uses iterative cycles at pace to support continuous learning and improve outcomes. Sets a high bar for results through repeatable, sustainable processes.

  • Talent Management: Reputation for building strong, motivated teams at scale with the ability to recruit top professionals, attract followers and develop top talent.

  • Influence:  Ability to collaborate to maintain alignment on vision, strategy, and performance to goals. Persuasive and able to logically make a case that helps others arrive at the right decision for the business; shows persistence in raising issues to the proper levels for attention


  • A Bachelor's degree in PR, communication, English or related field preferred; MBA or similar advanced degree a plus.

  • 20 years of communication experience, some portion in financial services preferred

  • History of working closely with C-suite and/or board-level executives

  • Experience building, leading, and structuring highly effective teams and departments of 20+ individuals

  • Comfort with basic digital analytics tools, capabilities, and reporting
