VP, Strategic Business Designer

We are currently looking to hire a VP level Business Designer on the Strategic Client Insights team, responsible for leading strategic projects and generating actionable, human-centered insights to support the needs of LPL’s Strategy & New Ventures team and key LPL business partners. This new team member will combine strategic thinking, business consulting, and human-centered design thinking processes to identify and evaluate new opportunities within existing business areas, or to craft and build new ventures. The individual will be responsible for improving LPL’s ability to understand the needs of its customers through design research and to develop customer-centric insights.

JOB DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

As a business designer, you will be responsible for improving LPL’s ability to understand the needs of its customers through design research and to develop customer-centric insights. In this role, you will be a champion of design and collaborate across a team of designers, researchers, and strategic business partners to help define strategy, identify growth opportunities, and bring to life new products.   

As a Business Designer you will…  

  • Explore advisor and investor trends, identify unmet needs and opportunities, and drive prioritized initiatives using human-centered business design

  • Guide teams through exploratory design research and the desirability process to help identify unmet needs and possible new products, services, or ventures

  • Design desirable, viable, and feasible business models that enhance and extend customer experiences and create new opportunities for revenue across time horizons

  • Translate business strategy and business models into actionable insights for the project team

  • Collaborate with key project stakeholders to understand their strategic priorities, key challenges and opportunities

  • Gain a deep understanding of external market context for future businesses or services

  • Scale and support design thinking and design research capabilities across LPL

  • Create and deliver inspiring presentations to senior executives and external audiences

  • Support development of strategic priorities and initiatives 

  • Likely manage a team of junior designers and researchers

Who we are looking for…     
The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Strategy, or the Liberal Arts

  • Five or more years of industry experience in areas that include: consulting, corporate strategy, enterprise leadership in a startup, design thinking, innovation, product development or venture

Our preferred requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Design, Ventures, Strategy, or equivalent

  • Experience of using human-centered design, design thinking principles or methods in a formal, in-person setting

  • Experience as an entrepreneur or product owner

  • Demonstrable rigor in designing and implementing or re-defining business models, products and services while driving strategic growth

  • Experience of complex business model development, scenario planning, and forecasting

  • Knowledge of or background in financial services

  • Experience of designing and/or facilitating group collaboration workshops

About the Strategic Client Insights Team:  

We are a multi-disciplinary team with experience in strategy, design and research. Our role is to help LPL better understand its customers and to make human-centered business decisions. The mission of the Strategic Client Insights team is to deliver actionable, human-centered, client insights to support prioritized strategic initiatives & new business incubators and to democratize design research to drive strategic business decisions across the firm.
