Job Overview:

The Principal Architect, Event Architecture is a critical member of the Cloud & Integration Architecture team and is responsible for defining patterns, tooling and standards for LPL’s event-based architecture. Working with and alongside multiple scrum teams across the firm, you will play a vital role in event/reactive/streaming architecture solutions that enable a modern enterprise. As an ambassador of Cloud and Integration Architecture, you will obsessively pursue making The Right Way The Easy Way for LPL teams to build safe, secure and compliant technology solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Showcase your growth mindset by seeking to understand our delivery teams’ business challenges first and then designing a solution that best achieves the end goal prioritizing LPL’s Architecture Principles.

  • Bring people together by acting as a bridge between our Kafka operations teams, our shared services teams such as DevOps, and our delivery teams. Share up-to-date insights on the latest Kafka-based solutions, formulate creative approaches to address business challenges, present and host workshops with senior leaders, and translate technical jargon into layman's language and vice versa.

  • Challenge delivery teams by using your skills, insight, and experience to help our development community see what it takes to do the right things versus simply doing things most expediently. Respectfully challenge their beliefs with well-researched, tailored insights to spotlight innovative ways of generating solutions that maximize outcomes. Identify why the fastest way wasn’t the right way, and own driving that change.

  • Create an excellent experience for our developers and internal stakeholders with adaptable communications skills that foster a collaborative environment. Document the agreed-upon solution through well-written, thoughtful, and living artifacts that demonstrate maturity, wisdom, and professionalism.

  • Partner with Confluent and internal teams to help developers navigate their journey to Kafka with a focus on driving our digital transformation. This includes envisioning, end-state solution design, interim milestones, and solution cost estimation.

What are we looking for?

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher, or the equivalent one-year-for-one-year experience.

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience; at least 3 years in a Kafka architect or development capacity.

  • Industry certification, or you are experienced and knowledgeable enough that people assume you have one.

Core Competencies:

  • Deep, hands-on technical skill-set with Kafka and the Kafka ecosystem.

  • In-depth knowledge of design patterns and how to apply them in a reactive architecture. Learner and a quick study, always curious about new technologies and how they impact LPL and our clients’ businesses.

  • Possess a knack for guiding people to the right solution while making them feel it was their decision all along.

  • Courageous leader who brings your whole self to work, ready to tackle tough conversations, and willing to be vulnerable and lean in on others.

  • Ability to speak with authority and confidence and whiteboard your solutions effectively for a varied audience of stakeholders.

  • Confident in working with our delivery teams to properly identify level of effort and cost estimations.

  • You make people feel heard and important regardless of their rank through your inclusive communication skills, whether written or verbal.

  • You understand what event patterns to apply to a problem set without being trapped by technical dogma.
