Job Overview:

As a key member of the LPL Technology team, the Digital Innovation Labs team has a unique opportunity for an Lead Innovation Engineer to be a hands-on leader performing the research and exploration of innovative solutions powering LPL's Digital Transformation. The successful candidate will be passionate about devising and exploring new ideas and concepts utilizing emerging technologies. Candidates are expected to research, design, prototype, and demonstrate advanced technology solutions and capabilities following a defined methodology. You will be partnering with teams across LPL to determine opportunity areas and explore innovative solutions that improve the lives of LPL’s clients and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Explore, evaluate, and prototype new and differentiating products and capabilities enabled through emerging technologies, leading techniques, and contemporary patterns to create world-class solutions and experiences for advisors, investors, and LPL employees

  • Meet and partner with internal and external stakeholders to synthesize innovation opportunities, potential solution impact, and plans of action

  • Lead technical research, rapid evaluation, and testing of solution concepts and associated hypotheses by performing technical Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs), creating functional prototypes, and soliciting user feedback

  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure and Operations, Information Security, and product teams to perform discovery explorations and promote knowledge share across the company

  • Synthesize and communicate complex information from disparate sources into a clear compelling story.

  • Recommend solutions that improve the client and employee experience that may also increase efficiency, reduce risk, increase resiliency, and improve performance

  • Present technical explorations, concepts, and research to technology, product, and business leaders as well as LPL technology employees

  • Advise, mentor, and develop teammates in the Digital Innovation Labs

  • Serve as an ambassador and steward of LPL innovation and discovery processes

What are we looking for?

Requirements:

  • 4+ years demonstrated experience leading technical teams in the design and implementation of complex systems

  • 8+ years of full-stack development experience with a combination of .NET, AWS cloud technologies, SQL Server, Angular, JavaScript, HTML as well as other front-end technologies and human-centered design, Python, Git, and Visual Studio or equivalent technologies

  • 5+ years of experience with event-oriented architecture, micro-services, containers, APIs, contemporary data storage capabilities, responsive design, etc.

  • 4+ years of extensive experience with mobile application frameworks for iOS and Android

  • 4+ years of experience with emerging technologies such as AI/ML including NLP, blockchain, AR/VR, etc.

Core Competencies:

  • Avid learner with a curious and open mindset

  • Strong communication, listening, planning, and presentation skills

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Passionate about fostering high-performing teams by cultivating a positive culture that prioritizes growing others

  • Demonstrated high-levels of Emotional Intelligence including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness to foster relationships and achieve positive results

Preferences:

  • Lean/agile mindset

  • Technically creative

  • Strong understanding of modern application design patterns and principles

  • Certification in one or more AWS or Azure public cloud disciplines including architecture, development, systems administration, or specialties such as information security and data science a plus

  • Experience working in a startup or a lab environment a plus

  • Prior FinTech experience a plus
