This position will be responsible for preparing and filing of all payroll taxes in a multi-company, multi-state and local environment. You would work with external auditors on quarterly tax reviews and prepare new tax registrations and reconciliation of various general ledger accounts. This position will also ensure compliance with internal controls. The Payroll Tax Analyst reports directly to the Payroll Manager and has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsible for annual payroll tax filings and participates in other payroll year-end requirements
Ensures applications to all relevant taxing agencies are made timely for all LPL entities
Researches and responds to employment tax issue inquiries with Federal and State employment tax authorities
Researches issues related to account variances
Files amended returns with Federal, State, State Unemployment, and Local agencies; Tracks refunds based on amendments filed
Assists in maintaining the federal, state and local quarterly payroll deductions to tax payment reconciliations
Maintains changes in unemployment rates on ADP Smart Compliance
Maintains states by entity information on ADP Smart Compliance
Research state and local specific tax requirements; communicates updates to team
Reconciles tax reporting and payments made throughout the calendar year to the W-2 file
May perform periodic internal audits of payroll tax areas and prepare materials for external or internal auditors
Assists with and serves as a back-up for other analyst duties such as running employee data interfaces from the HR information system.
Coordinates wire transfers to vendors and state agencies
Ensures compliance with all compensation and tax regulations as well as internal SOX and audit controls
Assists with the Analyzing merger, divestiture and acquisition activity, for tax entity impacts and implementing resulting actions as needed
Assists with the reconciling of tax accounts with Payroll Tax Accounting personnel and ability to analyze and take correction actions as necessary.
Ensures payroll tax electronic and paper record retention according to company and department policy, including filing.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent experience
Current CPP certification a plus
3 years payroll tax experience including federal, state, and local payroll withholding and unemployment tax experience and/or a combination of 3 years payroll tax/accounting experience required
Hands-on experience with payroll software (ADP Enterprise and ADP Smart Compliance) preferred
Advanced competency in payroll reporting tools (ADPR preferred)
Ability to work under tight deadlines and demonstrate critical thinking and detail orientation
Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization
Organizational skills to maintain appropriate files and reports
Must have the flexibility to handle multiple projects and problems simultaneously
Strong ability to connect with people and develop interpersonal skills
