Job Description

Job ID R-029826 Date posted 05/26/2023

LPL Financial (Nasdaq: LPLA) was founded on the principle that the firm should work for the advisor, and not the other way around. Today, LPL is a leader* in the markets we serve, supporting more than 18,000 financial advisors, 800 institution-based investment programs and 450 independent RIA firms nationwide. We are steadfast in our commitment to the advisor-centered model and the belief that Americans deserve access to personalized guidance from a financial advisor. At LPL, independence means that advisors have the freedom they deserve to choose the business model, services, and technology resources that allow them to run their perfect practice. And they have the freedom to manage their client relationships because they know their clients best. Simply put, we take care of our advisors, so they can take care of their clients.

Job Overview:

LPL Financial Technology is looking for a leader and technologist-at-heart to lead Middleware Platform Engineering as part of our broader technology strategy.

Are you a passionate customer-focused leader who drives results and operational excellence through delivery of self-service capabilities and platforms? Can you identify, define, and deliver common enterprise capabilities?  Are you an experienced leader who has promoted the vision and value of DevSecOps, Cloud, Developer Experience, and Platform capabilities that accelerate value delivery and unlock innovation?  Do you have demonstrated experience establishing the KPIs, reporting, and transparency required to drive outcomes?

If yes, then this could be the role for you!

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Technology organization as VPII, Middleware Platform Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for Middleware Platform management and delivery.

  • Lead Middleware Platform Engineering and Management supporting all LPL business lines spanning Messaging, Event Streaming, API Management, Routing, Caching, and Data Transmission technologies.

  • Partner with Technology, Business, and Product Leadership to develop strategy, roadmaps, and metrics that communicate and enable transparency into the hybrid cloud/on-premise vision, progress, and operational excellence.

  • Drive self-service capabilities across these platforms enabling LPL’s developer community to rapidly onboard, innovate, and deliver new features and value to our customers.

  • Additionally, devise and activate a high performing, rapid response 24x7 L2 organization supporting these technologies.

  • Develop a strategy and roadmap for integrating these platforms into a common management approach using DevSecOps and infrastructure-as-code pipelines and principles.

  • Protect customer experience through capabilities that detect and restore system issues as quickly as possible (through telemetry, monitoring, alerting, and both automated and manual recovery).

  • Proactively manage and maintain all Middleware platforms, including capacity, patching, upgrades, rationalization, and end-of-life.

  • Establish feedback loops that ensure continuous improvement and prioritization of the highest value customer needs.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of high-performing outcome-oriented engineers, including onshore, nearshore, and offshore personnel.

  • Intense focus on both functional and non-functional quality of all platforms – delighting customers with always-on, high performing systems that can scale with the company’s growth

  • Responsible for financial planning/allocation and staffing decisions with focus on efficiency and investment efficacy

  • Promote the vision and drive organizational transformation through establishing/maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including business, product, engineering, operations and management.

  • Collaborate across the firm to maintain alignment on vision, strategy, and performance to goals, approaching strategy with an entrepreneurial mindset, leveraging critical thinking to increase the value proposition of assigned products and programs.

  • 10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles that span across architecture, platform, and infrastructure engineering preferably within a financial service or related FinTech firm.

  • 7+ years of developing, cultivating, and leading strong, high-performing teams.

  • 5+ years in platform engineering and management involving Middleware technologies, including mix of cloud and on-premise experience.

  • 5+ years delivering and operating in an Agile model where dependency management and priority trade-off conversations are key to successful execution.

  • Expertise in architecting, designing, and delivering platforms as part of Data Center and Cloud migrations

  • Knowledge with Cloud technologies and architecture.

  • Background in DevSecOps and Infrastructure-as-code engineering and integration, including Terraform, Ansible, and platform management automation tools and technologies.

  • Experience activating and managing high-performing 24x7 support teams

  • Ability to create a strategy and execute on a roadmap that delivers to the strategy.
